Our Mission
Laurel Mountain Family Farms was established in 2014 by Robert & Laurel Lichti, along with their four daughters. Our mission: to raise animals according to the principles of nature, to produce nutrient-dense foods that heal and nourish our bodies, as well as the land from which God has in trusted us with.
Beliefs
Growing up in the 1960’s and the 1970’s, we saw how our food was being grown and the pride that farmers had in producing good, nutrient-dense foods. Then we began to see a shift away from locally based farms. We started to see food that we knew nothing about or where it came from or how it was raised or grown. With this in mind, I remember seeing the feed lots on trips across Kansas and Colorado. How disturbing these visions are and knowing that it will be someone’s food. As a result of these experiences, we became aware of the problems that plague our conventional food system and how it is affecting the wellbeing of consumers.
Therefore, our belief here at Laurel Mountain Family Farms is that people should know where their food comes from and how it is raised or grown. We believe that livestock should be raised by the small and local farmer that cares for these animals, and that gives reverence to what God has provided us as food.
We believe that first we need to focus on the land that provides the food for our table. Through our personal life experiences we have come to the belief that how we manage our soil, plants and animals will directly affect the physical and mental health of those who consume the products of our farming choices.
Our Vision
In 2011, after a 30 year career in the US Military, we embarked on a journey to acquire and transition my wife’s family homestead into a farm that can sustain multi-species, pasture based farming and direct marketing operation.
We continue our endeavor to build a farm-to-consumer food venture that serves a community of likeminded people who share our vision for a better food system.
This vocation of bringing food to your table is more than business to us - it's a personal ministry, a responsibility, and a way of life that we take very seriously!
Our Philosophies
Endeavor To Preserve The Land
We believe that the forests are nature's foundation for preserving our expanses of fertile land. We believe the forests' natural bio-diverse habitat works in symbiosis to protect and build the precious layer of fertile topsoil in which we all depend so much on for food production. By periotic rotation of multi-species across the pastures and woodlands, we are able to practice bio-mimicry, thus allowing plants and animals to carry out their intended purposes. This gives us the opportunity and privilege to provide our customers with a harmonious nutrient dense food source.
Purposeful Stewardship
We believe that all life, plants and animals are created for a specific purpose and that it is each and every person's responsibility (farmer and consumer) to learn and observe what those purposes are, so that we all may be better stewards of the earth. We encourage every individual and family to invest time in learning where food comes from and develop a connection with local farmers and food producers.
Personal Responsibility
We believe that healthfulness is not the responsibility of doctors, corporations or for that matter, the government, but rather it is the responsibility of every individual. We believe that every person should take personal responsibility for their own health and the health of their family by learning and observing the positive and negative effects that foods have on the human body and take the necessary steps to secure healthy sources of nourishing foods.
Building Trust
As more consumers begin seeking alternatives to conventional foods, the health food movement is seeing its share of aggressive marketers attempting to take advantage of consumer perceptions. Here at Laurel Mountain Family Farms we take our customers' trust very seriously and it's our goal to earn long-term trust and respect by being up-front and honest about the claims we make about our products.
The days of my military career, and fighting to protect our American way of life may be over in one sence, but the fight to create a trusted food source is just beginning.
